THE FORMATION OF ACNE AND ACNE SCARRING:
Acne left untreated can lead to severe scarring. When this happens most people give up and assume the scarring is there to stay. At Trilogy Medical Center we can now effectively treat the scarring using a combination of lasers, fillers, peels and an individualized recommendation for acne medical-grade skin care.

What Can You Do About Acne Scarring?
It's bad enough to have a bout of acne, but it's worse when the acne leaves scars behind. If you're a teenager, you probably think that you'll have acne scars for the rest of your life. But the good news is that acne scars aren't like other scars and are in fact easier to remedy. They tend to be rolling scars, which are pits in the skin with rounded edges. They fade over time, but you may not have the patience to wait for them to go away on their own! The good news is that there are ways to treat these unsightly scars. Following are three of our most popular acne treatments:
Regenlite is a laser treatment used not just for acne but varicose veins, irregular pigmentation and other skin problems. It uses laser light to not only correct scars but to destroy the bacteria that cause acne in the first place. It also stimulates the body to heal itself. Part of this healing is the production of a protein called collagen, which helps soften the look of the acne scar.
During the treatment, you'll relax in a chair, and our dermatologist uses a handpiece to precisely aim the laser at your scars. If you want most of your face treated, a session should run about a half an hour to 45 minutes. The laser used is a low energy type, and you'll have a sensation of heat but no pain. It does not burn away skin the way other types of lasers do. When Regenlite is used as an acne treatment, you'll probably need about three treatments. These treatments are scheduled every month. You may have a bit of bruising after a session, but it goes away after a few days.
Bellafil is an entirely different kind of acne treatment because it is a dermal filler. These fillers add volume to the area of skin to be treated. Unlike a lot of fillers that are based on hyaluronic acid and other materials, Bellafil is semi-permanent or permanent. It is made of microscopic spheres of PMMA, or polymethylmethacrylate, which are suspended in collagen harvested from cows. The gel already has a local anesthesia to make sure that the sessions are comfortable for you. Another good thing about this treatment is that you'll see the results right away.
You'll need to have an allergy test about a month before treatment to make sure you're not allergic to the collagen. The doctor will look at your medical history and tell you to discontinue some medications such as NSAIDs to lower the risk of bleeding and bruising. Ideally, you should be over 18 to have Bellafil injections. If you're a good candidate for the procedure, you may have a number of sessions scheduled three weeks to a month and a half apart.
