People who opt for permanent dermal fillers have usually been treated with temporary dermal fillers, have liked the results and now want the look to be permanent or at least very long lasting. Bellafill can last up to 5 years and works well to fill scars and and deep wrinkles alike.
Bellafil is a gel that’s made of millions of tiny spheres of PMMA, or polymethyl-methacrylate suspended in purified bovine collagen. Collagen is a complex proteins, and in the case of this particular dermal filler it’s derived from the skin of cows. The gel also contains lidocaine, which reduces the discomfort felt during the treatment. Though the collagen is absorbed by the patient’s body over time, the PMMA microspheres remain. The permanent dermal filler is appropriate for men and women over 21.
Trilogy Medical Center is a Bellafill diamond status provider.
Before the treatment, the medical professional gives the prospective patient a skin test to see whether or not they’re allergic to either bovine collagen or lidocaine. If they are not and are in otherwise good health, they are candidates for the treatment.
The treatment happens in the doctor’s office. First, the area is treated with a numbing cream then the doctor uses a very fine needle to inject the dermal filler. The entire session lasts about 15 minutes. There is no downtime, so the patient can go back to their usual routine at once. As with other injectables, some bruising, swelling and redness are to be expected, but these go away after one to seven days.
Though Bellafill was approved by the FDA for nasolabial folds in 2006, it has many off-label uses. It is also used to add volume to acne scars. Besides acne scars, the filler is used to contour the cheeks, reshape the nose, fill out hollow areas beneath the eyes, plump thin lips, define the jawline and remove dimpling around the cheeks and the chin. Some dermatologists warn that this dermal filler not be used in areas where the skin is very thin and delicate, such as the smile lines around the eyes. However, some dermatologists do use the filler to soften the look of smile lines. Most patients only need one treatment of the PMMA dermal filler, though some need more. In that case, the sessions are scheduled between three and six weeks apart to allow the first injections to heal.
